Ekaṃ samayaṃ bhagavā magadhesu viharati maṇimālike cetiye maṇibhaddassa yakkhassa bhavane. Atha kho maṇibhaddo yakkho yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavato santike imaṃ gāthaṃ abhāsi–

smṛtīmatā bhadram astu     bhadram astu smṛtīmatā |
smṛtīmantaḥ sukhaṃ śete     vairaṃ yeṣā(ṃ) na kena (cit) ||

[1]如是我聞：

At one time the Buddha was staying in the land of the Magadhans at the Maṇimālika tree shrine, the haunt of the native spirit Maṇibhadda. 

[2]一時佛在摩竭提國人間遊行，日暮與五百比丘於屈摩夜叉鬼住處宿。

Then the native spirit Maṇibhadda went up to the Buddha, and recited this verse in the Buddha’s presence:

[3]時屈摩夜叉鬼來詣佛所，稽首佛足，退住一面。

[4]時屈摩夜叉鬼白佛言：

[5]「世尊！

X

[6]今請世尊與諸大眾於此夜宿。」

X

[7]爾時世尊默然受請。

X

[8]是時屈摩夜叉鬼知世尊默然受請已，化作五百重閣房舍，臥床、坐床、踞床，俱襵褥枕，各五百具，悉皆化成。

X

[9]化作五百燈明，無諸煙炎。

X

[10]悉化現已，往詣佛所，稽首佛足，勤請世尊，令入其舍，令諸比丘次受房舍及諸臥具。

[11]周遍受已，還至佛所，稽首佛足，退坐一面，而說偈言：

“Satīmato sadā bhaddaṃ, satimā sukhamedhati;
satīmato suve seyyo, verā ca parimuccatī”ti.

“Satīmato sadā bhaddaṃ, satimā sukhamedhati;

satīmato suve seyyo, verā na parimuccati.

“Yassa sabbamahorattaṃ [var] , ahiṃsāya rato mano;
mettaṃ so sabbabhūtesu, veraṃ tassa na kenacī”ti.

“It’s always auspicious for the mindful;
the mindful prosper in happiness.
Each new day is better for the mindful,
and they’re freed from enmity.”

[12]「賢德有正念 賢德常正念

[13]正念安隱眠 此世及他世

“It’s always auspicious for the mindful;
the mindful prosper in happiness.
Each new day is better for the mindful,
but they’re not freed from enmity.

[14]賢德有正念 賢德常正念

[15]正念安隱眠 其心常寂止

X

[16]賢德有正念 賢德常正念

But someone whose mind delights in harmlessness,
all day and all night,
with love for all living creatures—
they have no enmity for anyone.”

[17]正念安隱眠 捨降伏他軍

[18]賢德有正念 賢德常正念

X

[19]不殺不教殺 不伏不教伏

X

[20]慈心於一切 心不懷怨結」

[21]爾時世尊告屈摩夜叉鬼：

X

[22]「如是，如是，如汝所說。」

[23]時屈摩夜叉鬼聞佛所說，歡喜隨喜，稽首佛足，還自所住處。
